Check ICE Detainee Releases

To find someone released from the ICE Custody Network after a Huron County custody event, use the federal immigration locator and preserve the county’s movement record. ICE detention is a civil federal system. It is separate from the Huron County Jail, Michigan state prisons, and federal BOP custody. A person who leaves the county jail on an immigration detainer may have transferred rather than entered the community. The ICE locator can cover current custody and a limited period after ICE release, but a missing result cannot prove that immigration detention never occurred.

Huron ICE Custody Limits

No official evidence was found that Huron County Jail is an ICE detention-contract facility. No ICE detention center was identified in Huron County. That negative finding matters because a system page should not invent a local federal facility or imply that the Sheriff operates one. The ICE Custody Network is included because an individual local booking can still end in a transfer based on an immigration detainer.

The absence of a verified contract does not prove that the jail never encounters an individual immigration hold. A detainer is a request or legal basis for another authority to assume custody. If a Huron movement record names ICE, immigration, or a federal receiving authority, the event should be followed in the appropriate federal channel. Until that step is resolved, departure from the county jail is not proof of community release.

Important: No Huron County ICE detention contract was found, but an individual detainer or transfer can still create an ICE custody path.

Search ICE Detainee Release Records

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System, or ODLS, is the principal public search. It has two search modes. An A-number search requires the person’s nine-digit Alien Registration Number and country of birth. Add leading zeroes when needed to reach nine digits. A biographical search requires exact first and last name plus country of birth, with date of birth as an optional way to narrow the result.

  1. Choose the A-number route when the exact number and country of birth are known.
  2. Otherwise, enter the person’s exact name and country of birth, then add date of birth if available.
  3. Review any result for current ICE location or recent release information.
  4. Compare the ICE result with the Huron Sheriff movement destination.
  5. If no result appears, contact the ICE reporting line or the Detroit ERO channel that covers Michigan.
  6. Keep court and receiving-agency records separate from the locator result.

ODLS excludes people under 18. ICE says it can include people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. That is a limited display window, not an archival promise. Exact spelling also matters. A missing person may fall outside the time window, may be entered under different biographical data, may be a minor, or may not be in ICE custody.

Note: No ICE screenshot is used because the matched manifest capture failed, and unrelated facility images would not document ODLS.

Read an ICE Release Result

An ODLS record can orient a current or recent immigration-custody check. A current location indicates ICE custody at the time reflected by the system. A recent-release result indicates departure from ICE custody within the locator’s limited period. Neither answers every question about immigration proceedings, release conditions, or later custody. The locator is not a county release log and does not replace the Huron Sheriff record that began the inquiry.

EvidenceWhat it can showLimit

ODLS current resultICE location within the system’s scopeCan change and excludes minors
ODLS recent-release resultRelease from ICE custody within the stated windowDoes not remain a permanent archive

“Not found” is weaker than a positive match. Search limits, spelling, age exclusion, and the 60-day released-person window all create valid negative results. When ODLS and the Huron transfer record do not align, preserve both and ask the responsible agencies to explain their own records rather than guessing which event occurred.

Trace Huron ICE Transfers

Begin with the sending custodian. Call Huron County Jail and ask whether the person remains there. If not, request the movement classification and destination. A written Sheriff release or movement record is stronger than relying on roster disappearance because Huron County publishes no roster in the first place. Ask for the receiving agency if that field is recorded and disclosable.

A response that says “released to ICE” describes release from county custody and transfer into another custodian’s control. It does not mean release from ICE. Search ODLS next. If ICE later reports release, keep that separate date and event. A community release from the county and a release from federal civil detention are not interchangeable.

The Huron County Jail movement-record route gives the official contacts and FOIA path. Reception into a federal system can lag, so the county destination field is especially useful during the gap.

Detainer
A request or basis for another authority to assume custody.
Civil immigration custody
ICE detention connected to immigration proceedings, separate from a criminal prison sentence.
Transfer
Movement between custodians without community release.
Release
The end of the specific custody named in the record, which may still be followed by another legal restraint.

ICE Release Contact Route

If ODLS returns no useful result, ICE’s Detention Reporting and Information Line is the direct fallback. The researched hours are Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. The Detroit Enforcement and Removal Operations channel covers Michigan. Use the ICE field-office directory to verify the current office contact rather than relying on an old local listing.

Have the exact name, date and country of birth, A-number when known, and the Huron transfer date ready. Ask about ICE custody or a recent ICE release, not about a county court disposition. ICE cannot replace the Sheriff’s local movement record, and the Sheriff cannot certify a later ICE event.

Separate Huron Custody Systems

County, state, federal criminal, and federal civil custody use separate public tools. Huron County Jail departures are checked through the jail, Sheriff records, MI-VINE, and the courts. MDOC state-prison and parole cases are searched in OTIS. Sentenced federal custody is searched through BOP. ICE civil detention is searched in ODLS. The U.S. Marshals Service does not offer a comparable released-prisoner locator.

A person can pass through more than one system. Use the last confirmed movement as the bridge to the next custodian. If the county record says MDOC, do not search ICE merely because the person disappeared from local custody. If it says USMS, use the federal docket and BOP route as appropriate. If it names immigration custody, use ODLS and direct ICE contact.

The Huron County released-inmate search path compares all four routes when the custodian is not yet known. Jurisdiction should be identified before a name is entered into every portal.

Get ICE Release Documentation

ODLS is a public locator, not a permanent release certificate. A person needing documentary detail should first save the identifiers and event dates, then use official ICE attorney-information or records channels appropriate to the case. Privacy, identity, and authorization rules can limit what is disclosed. A precise request for a named custody or release record is more useful than a broad request for an immigration file.

The ICE attorney information resources provide case-related routes for representatives. Other requesters should follow the agency’s current public records process and comply with identity rules. The Huron Sheriff FOIA route remains separate and should be used for the county booking and transfer document.

No local ICE facility address appears because none was verified in Huron County. Listing an unrelated detention center would imply a connection the research did not establish. Let the current ODLS result or ICE contact identify the correct facility, if one exists.
